3 Straight MML Championships
As the 1998 football season approached, expectations were running high for the Cougars. They were coming off back to back MML titles and their first appearance in the State Playoffs in '97. The Cougars of '98 preceded to capture a third straight MML title and return to the State Playoffs. They were the first team in school history to win 10 games in a season as they finished 10-2.
The Cougars were led by a Senior class that won the MML title four years in a row. During their three year varsity run they compiled a 20-1 MML record.
Many individuals received honors due to the Cougars successes. The Cougars were led by linebacker James Smith who was named first team all-state. Smith and Junior running back David White were named MML defensive and offensive players of the year. David also set the single season rushing record as he ran for 1789 yards. Other players receiving post season awards were David Beiser, Danny Beiser, Luke Cripe, Josh Lang, Adam Sortman, Jimmy Williams, and Brad Valerio.
The football program provided our students, school, fans and community with another year of exciting action on those cool Autumn Friday evenings. The future looks very promising for continued success as the Cougars produce MML titles at both the JV and Freshman levels in '98. We congratulate all players and coaches for another very rewarding and successful season.
