The 1976 Football team brought home its first ever MML Championship with a 6-1 league record. The opening game against Madison prevented the Cougars from making a trip to the state playoffs. Several firsts were recorded by this years team. First every victory over Fenwick as well as the first homecoming game win over Franklin. Dave Bond and Duane Hickman earned 1st team MML offense and defense. Jim Cottle, Greg Evans and Terry Osborne earned 1st team offense while Phil Garland was 1st team defense. Other awards include Outstanding lineman Pat Fagin, Outstanding back Jim Cottle, Most Tackles Phil Garland, Most Improved Clint Gabbard, Scout Player John Harris, MVP Phil Garland and Hustle, Heart, Harmony Greg Evans.
